FAQ — FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Think of it like a Google Search Console — but for AI.

When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity "what's a good Notion template for budgeting?" — does your product show up?

Most creators have no idea. pickedby.ai checks for you in 10 seconds and gives you a score from 0 to 100 — your AI Visibility Score.

No signup. No credit card. Completely free.

It's a number from 0 to 100 that tells you how well AI systems "know" your product. It's calculated across 5 dimensions — each worth a different weight.

75–100 · GOLD · PICKED BY AI 50–74 · SILVER · SEEN BY AI 25–49 · BRONZE · NOTICED BY AI 0–24 · NO BADGE · Invisible

A score of 100 is the maximum — it means AI knows your product across every dimension. A score of 0 means AI has basically never heard of you.

Example: Figma scores near the max. A brand-new unknown product scores 0.

Two layers working together:

Layer 1 — Real-time web scan across 5 dimensions:

  • Web Presence (25 pts) — how many third-party sites mention your product by name?
  • Source Authority (20 pts) — are you mentioned on high-authority sites (TechCrunch, G2, etc.)?
  • Recommendation Signals (20 pts) — are you featured in "best of" or "top picks" lists?
  • Community Validation (20 pts) — do you have presence on Reddit, Product Hunt, Indie Hackers?
  • Competitive Context (15 pts) — do you appear in "vs" or "alternatives to" articles?

Layer 2 — Direct AI Probe

We query Perplexity and GPT directly to check if they actually know and recommend your product right now. This tells you what real users see when they ask AI about your category.

Yes, 100% free. No account needed.

Just type your product name → hit Check → get your score in ~10 seconds. That's it.

We run your product through 5 dimensions that reflect how AI systems actually discover and recommend products:

  • Web Presence (25 pts) — How many third-party domains mention your product by name?
  • Source Authority (20 pts) — Are high-authority sites (TechCrunch, G2, etc.) talking about you?
  • Recommendation Signals (20 pts) — Are you featured in "best of" or "top picks" lists?
  • Community Validation (20 pts) — Do you have presence on Product Hunt, Reddit, G2?
  • Competitive Context (15 pts) — Have you appeared in "vs" or "alternatives to" articles?

Total possible: 100 points. On top of this, we directly query Perplexity and GPT to verify if AI actually recognizes your product. The full methodology is in our blog post.

Badges are earned proof that AI systems recognize your product. Think of them like quality marks you can display on your store.

GOLD — Score 75+ SILVER — Score 50–74 BRONZE — Score 25–49

Once you earn a badge, you'll get an embeddable HTML snippet to add to your Gumroad page, Etsy store, or website. It tells buyers: "This product is recognized by AI."

Scores below 30 don't earn a badge yet — that's where our improvement tips are most useful.

No — and we'll never claim that. AI recommendations are dynamic. No tool can guarantee placement.

What your score does tell you is how visible your product is to AI right now — and whether you have a realistic chance of showing up when customers ask AI for recommendations.

Think of it like SEO: good optimization improves your chances, but doesn't guarantee page 1. Same idea here.

AI learns from what's publicly available on the internet. If your product has a low score, it usually means one of these:

  • Not enough public content — reviews, blog posts, forum mentions about your product are sparse
  • Vague product description — AI doesn't have a clear category or use-case to attach to your product
  • New product — AI training data hasn't caught up yet
  • No llms.txt or schema markup — AI crawlers can't easily parse what your product does

After your scan, we show you specific suggestions tailored to your score. These are your starting points.

After your scan you'll see personalized tips. Generally the most effective moves are:

  • Write clear product copy — state exactly what your product does, who it's for, and when to use it
  • Get mentioned in context — Reddit threads, YouTube reviews, blog posts, comparison articles all feed AI training data
  • Add an llms.txt file to your site — a simple text file that AI crawlers can read directly (auto-generation coming soon in the Dashboard)
  • Get on curated lists — "Best Notion templates for X" type roundups are gold for AI visibility
  • Consistent naming — use the same product name everywhere, so AI can connect the dots

SEO = getting ranked in Google search results (blue links).
AI Visibility = getting mentioned in AI chat answers.

More and more people skip Google entirely and just ask ChatGPT: "What's the best budget spreadsheet template?" — they get one answer, not ten links. If you're not in that answer, you don't exist for that buyer.

SEO and AI Visibility overlap but are different games with different rules. You can rank #1 on Google and still be invisible to AI — and vice versa.

We built this specifically for digital product creators:

  • Gumroad sellers (templates, ebooks, courses, presets)
  • Notion / Airtable template creators
  • Etsy digital download sellers
  • LemonSqueezy / Payhip / Ko-fi creators
  • Independent SaaS tools and micro-apps

If you sell a digital product and want to know if AI is sending you buyers — this is for you.

(Starting with creators. Our roadmap extends to indie SaaS, D2C brands, and every online seller.)

AI training data gets refreshed periodically — so your score can change over time.

We recommend:

  • After any major update to your product or landing page
  • After a launch or press mention
  • Monthly as a routine check-in

Enter your email after the scan to join the AI Visibility Platform early access (100 founding spots) — get Analytics and Ads features first when they ship.

We store only the product name you enter and the score result — nothing else.

If you give us your email, we store that to send you reports. We don't sell data, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

We're starting with digital creators — Gumroad sellers, Notion template makers, Etsy shops — because they need it most and have zero existing tools.

Our roadmap extends to indie SaaS, D2C brands, agencies, and every business that sells online. Think of it like early Google Analytics — it started with bloggers, then became universal.

We're building the Google Stack for AI recommendations in three layers:

  • ✅ Search Console (now): Check if AI knows your product
  • 🔜 Analytics (Q3 2026): Track recommendation frequency, rank trends, category benchmarks
  • 🔮 Ads (2027): Optimize and eventually buy AI placements

Early users get first access to every new layer as it ships.

The market is real: AI referral traffic grew 527% YoY, ChatGPT handles ~50M shopping queries per day, and AI-driven conversion is 16.8% vs Google's ~2%.

The GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) market is projected at $17B by 2034 — yet there are zero tools built for creators. We shipped our MVP in 10 days and we're not slowing down. Read our manifesto for the full vision.
